Description A new colorimetric method for the determination of ethylene dibromide in microquantities is reported. The method consists in (I) hydrolysing ethylene dibromide at 90°C for 30 min with sodium monoethanolamine taken in excess of the theoretical requirement and (2) treating the unreacted sodium monoethanolamine with 1% p-nitrobenzenediazonium fluoborate solution to form a blood red coloured complex; the optical density of the complex is measured at 510 nm, the region of maximum absorption. By this method, ethylene dibromide can be estimated in microquantities (up to 10 ,ug/ml) with an accuracy of ±10%.
