Description The major goal of the project is to provide an objective means to assess, protect, manage and mitigate the pollution of major problem rivers by using latest state-of-the-art computer simulation and information technology. The present study envisages to make use of the data available under various monitoring programs (MINARS, YAP, GEMS) for computer simulation studies using state-of-the-art modeling technologies to generate detailed water quality profile for various parameters like, BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand), DO (Dissolved Oxygen), Bacteria, toxic metals, nitrogen and phosphorus species for alternate pollution abatement scenarios. Selection of the candidate rivers and stretches will be made in consultation with MoEF officials. The information and knowledge acquired through the proposed study will be made available on the Internet through the design of the exclusive web site “ Nations Water Quality” as a part of the present study.
