Description This report summarises the modelling studies carried out at C-MMACS on nutrient uptake by phytoplankton in a multinutrient environment using a seven component marine ecosystem model for the mixed layer. Five relations of ammonium inhibition on nitrate uptake by phytoplankton reported in the literature and a new relation proposed based on the properties of similarity and hyperbolicity are introduced into the marine ecosystem model. The results show that the ammonium inhibition relation and the model parameters used in the simulations, have significant influence on the dynamics of the ecosystem.
