Description The high productive underground longwall mining method requires proper assessment of serviceability of each component of each sub-system for maintenance management and minimisation of repair time to maximise the utilisation. The paper, here, considering the pit head information, firstly assesses the breakdown for five longwall faces of two sub-systems and than categorised them into various modules or components for two sub-systems viz. shearer and armoured flexible conveyor (AFC) to evaluate the failure rates for each component. The paper then considering the average production per hour have attempted to emphasise the possibility in increase in production by varying the combined failure rates (shearer and AFC) for each face.
