Description |
Zircon (Zr SiO4) is one of the most important minerals of zirconium. Ziron particles are coated with oxides of iron. This causes difficulty in its industrial utilization particularly in the glass and ceramic industry. The removal of iron from zircon sand by oxalic acid solution is reported in this paper. The best result was found with 0.4% commercially available oxalic acid solution in water at ambient temperature and pressure. The other parameters, the effect of agitation, change of leaching solution at frequent intervals, use of spent liquor for further leaching, etc., are also reported in this paper. It is found that total solution required for 60% iron removal is about 6 times to that of solid treated.
