A new clerodane-type <img src='/image/spc_char/gamma2.gif' border=0>-hydroxybutenolide diterpene has been isolated from the bark of <i style="">Polyalthia longifolia</i> var. <i style="">angustifolia</i>. Its structure has been established as (<i style="">Z</i>)-4-hydroxy-3-(2<b style="">″</b>6<b style="">″</b>-hydroxy-5<b style="">″</b>-(hydroxymethyl)-5<b style="">″</b>,8<b style="">″</b>a-dimethyloctahydro-1<i style="">H</i>-spiro[naphthalene-2<b style="">″</b>,2<b style="">″′</b>-oxiran]-1<b style="">″</b>-yl) ethylidene)dihydrofuran-2(3<i style="">H</i>)-one, on the basis of chemical and spectral (UV, IR,<sup>1</sup>H,<sup>13</sup>C, HETROCOSY and mass) data analysis. |
