Claisen rearrangement of 7-propargyloxyspirochromanones in <i style="">N,N</i>-diethylaniline affords spiro[pyrano[2,3-<i style="">f</i>]chromen-2,1'-cycloalkan]-4-ones, while 1'-alkylspiro[pyrano[2,3-<i style="">f</i>]chromen-2,4'-piperidin]-4-ones can be synthesized by Claisen rearrangement of 4-propargyloxyresaectophenones followed by cyclization using <i style="">N</i>-subsituted piperidones in ethanol-pyrrolidine. All the compounds have been tested <i style="">in vitro</i> for their antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria <i style="">Bacillus subtilis</i> and <i style="">Staphylococcus aureus</i> and Gram-negative bacteria <i style="">Escherichia coli</i> and <i style="">Pseudomonas aeruginosa</i>. Some of the compounds show moderate to good antibacterial activity. |
