Description Environmental concerns, resulting in stringent vehicle emission regulations all overthe world have forced to make major changes in distillate fuel quality. An overview of the changes in fuel quality occurring worldover and the proposed changes in India are discussed. The analytical needs for quality control vis-a-vis the future fuel quality are also discussed. Lead content, distillation range, benzene content, sulphur content and intake system deposits are the major cause of concern in gasoline while in diesel fuels, ignition quality, tail end volality, sulphur, oxidation stability, etc are the parameters which are being looked into.
