Description 2256-2266
The 1D coordination polymers, [MIII(Schiff-base)(dca)]<i>n</i>, dca- = dicyanamide, N(CN)2-, MIII = Mn and Fe, Schiff-base=salen2- (N,N'-ethylenebis(salicylaldiminato)) (<b>1</b>) and (<b>2</b>); sal-<i>o</i>-phen2- (N,N'-<i>o</i>-phenylenebis (salicylaldiminato)) (<b>3</b>) and (<b>4</b>); (±)-saltch2- (N,N'-(±)-<i>trans</i>-cyclohexanebis (salicylaldiminato)) (<b>5</b>) and (<b>6</b>), are reported. The complexes consist of octahedral high-spin MIII atoms coordinated in the equatorial plane by the tetra-chelating Schiff-base ligand and coordinated in the axial positions by single μ1,5-dicyanamide bridges, forming infinite linear zigzag chains. The chains of complexes <b>1</b> to <b>6</b> interdigitate in a parallel fashion with adjacent chains, via weak π-stacking. Variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements (2-300 K; <i>H </i>=1T) have shown that these compounds display very weak anti ferromagnetic coupling, and consequently no long-range magnetic order has been observed under these conditions, as expected for isolated 1D chains.
