A brief overview of roof cooling materials has been described in this paper. The problem associated with urban heat island on
the hot summer days creates an uncomfortable atmosphere to the persons staying inside a room. Additionally, the energy needs
for air-conditioning results in air pollution. We have tried to show in this paper, how cool roofing materials works, their use
benefits urban people and the condition on which these materials can be applied on a roof.
