Description Fractured front cover plate, IDG and RFP studs from the vibration tested engine gearbox were analyzed. Fractographic examination and microstructural analysis showed that all the three components have failed by high cycle-low stress fatigue. The material of the studs conforms to GTM-SU-718 material while the front cover plate casting does not conform to AU2GN specification. It is recommended to use material as per the specification and also, check the quality of casting by radiographic technique. Whether or not the components have undergone resonance during vibration test needs to be examined.
