Description A fractured tie rod of the engine rear attachment was analyzed. Fractographic features suggest that the tie-rod has failed by reverse bending fatigue. No metallurgical and/or mechanical abnormalities were found responsible for the fatigue crack initiation. The fatigue crack initiation is stress related and excessive vibration appears to be the most probable reason for the fatigue crack initiation.
